Generally most people will not actually think about getting travel insurance when they are
about to go on a vacation or even when traveling for their work. Often it is overlooked because of other things that have to be done before a
trip. Travel insurance isn’t regarded very highly in the scale of importance in the “to-do” list for travelers thus many either accidentally
forget to get the proper coverage or simple intentionally avoid getting it saying that it the trip is to a safe place or that their trips are
only for a short time and thus wouldn’t be necessary.
As some would say, “those were their famous last words”. The problem is that many travelers
don’t understand that once traveling, the risk to you as a traveler increases quite substantially compared to if you aren’t. This is because
travelers will often take trips to see sights, eat at numerous places and even enjoy a drink or two at foreign drinking holes. All of these
contribute to a much higher risk profile when traveling so cover is very important.
Travelers often do not value the worth of travel insurance correctly. The travel insurance
provider’s value isn’t in the amount of cover for a said accident or medical costs, rather it is the contacts with medical service providers,
emergency personnel, lawyers etc that are of value. The simple fact is that if you or your family find that you are in trouble in a foreign
country, the insurer will help you out because you have bought the cover from them.
With the increase in travel brought about by low cost carriers the competition for travel
insurance has gotten even more intense than before. This is simply for the fact that classic airlines used to offer every passenger a certain
level of insurance cover with every ticket. The low cost carriers do not offer insurance cover with their tickets and have passed on the
insurance requirements to the traveler themselves. As such many insurance providers now have a market that is much larger and have thus required
them to compete very hard to get the often fickle customer. This all bodes very well to the conscious traveler as the rates have dropped
significantly and the strength of cover still remains intact. Often insurers may even offer rebates of even discounts with their partner
restaurants or even resorts if you buy insurance from them in large numbers.
There shouldn’t be a reason that travelers not take up travel insurance especially if they are
going on a trip somewhere rural where the risks faced will be much higher. The prices have dropped and the competition within the industry is
very tight.
